The Seacare Authority met in Perth on 21 November 2018. The key outcomes of the meeting are set out below.
Mental health initiatives
The Seacare Authority conducted a workshop in Fremantle on the Tuesday 20 November 2018, supporting and encouraging mentally healthy workplaces in the maritime industry as part of a broader focus of the Seacare Authority on mental health in the industry.
The workshop provided an opportunity for attendees to learn about best practice approaches to increase awareness about workplace psychological health and safety in the maritime industry. Discussion on the day highlighted the complexity of seafaring work and the importance of employers, employees and unions working together to create mentally health workplaces.
Seacare Scheme data
The 2017-18 Seacare Scheme Data publication (PDF, 1.1 MB) (formerly the Compendium of Seacare Statistics) was endorsed by the Seacare Authority for publication. This considers a variety of measures relating to occupational health and safety and workers’ compensation claims in the Seacare scheme.
Next meeting
The next meeting of the Seacare Authority will be held in Canberra on the 14 March 2019.
